SOURCE360 BRINGS WU-TANG CLAN AND NY HIP-HOP TO BROOKLYN!

The Source Magazine celebrating their 25th Anniversary brought NYC Hip-Hop home to Brooklyn, The Barclays Center played host to some of the most legendary artists ever to perform the Hip-Hop genre. The Source Magazine celebrating its 25th anniversary brought Hip-Hop artists for their first annual SOURCE360 Concert as part of their First Annual SOURCE360 Music, Art & Culture Expo which was a three date event (September 19, 20, 21) that took place in several cultural centers in downtown Brooklyn.

While we waited for what we knew was not going to be night not to forget with some of our favorite rap artists, we were entertained by the house DJ of the night DJ Eddie B. Swiftwho brought us old school and new Hip-Hop music all night, the mixes were undeniably New York street music. In addition to our amazing DJ of the night we have to mention the host of the night Ramel The MC. Ramel knew every song played by the DJ and he danced to all of them, the amazing thing about Mel was that he can also rap and he improvised verses…he was such a fun addition to the night, he had us singing and dancing with him between every act.

The Wu-Tang Clan was the main attraction as they came to reunite and celebrate their official return as one of the best Rap groups in the world. From the minute they got on stage the fans went crazy it was such a beautiful moment of welcoming home their hometown favorites. The fans knew all the words to their songs, they waved their hands, they danced, and it

was such magical night for Hip-Hip, New York Hip-Hop. Wu-Tang did not forget there deceased member Old Dirty Bastard and they paid homage to him by displaying his picture on the screen and singing “Shimmy, Shimmy, Ya” the fans went wild. Method Man, Ghostface Killah, Raekwon, Gza, U-God, Masta Killah, Inspectah Deck and Cappadonna they all show us what it is to be great rappers and artists, we can only hope that they give us more.

On stage before Staten Island’s Wu-Tang Clan took over, there were several other Hip-Hop artists such as Bone Thugs-N-Harmony; I have to say they tore it up as well, their energy, and their love for the genre was so evident in their performance. Other performers that took the stage included Dom Kennedy and Curren$sy, The Diplomats (Dipset), which included Juelz Santana, Jim Jones, and Cam’ron to the delight of the fans they sang “Oh Boy” and “Hey Ma”.

To say “Brooklyn was in the house” is an understatement, ounce Lil “The Queen B” Kimout to perform there was no doubt. “The Queen B” steps on the stage and she knew she owed it when she said, “This ain’t no championship s—t I’ve been the greatest.” She gave us what we like, songs like “Get Money”; she paid her respects to the Notorious BIGby performing “Hipnotize”. Kim recently became a mother and she received a present for her baby girl on stage from a fan, it was such a beautiful moment, Lil Kim was very appreciative stating, “Royal is going to love it”.

The Source360 event was such a welcoming experience in Brooklyn as someone who was raised in Brooklyn and when I say raised in Brooklyn I am talking about neighborhoods such as Williamsburg, Park Slope, Bed-Stuy, Sunset Park, and Greenpoint. Needless to say I was raised on Hip-Hop and listening to DJs spin tracks in the parks, street corners, and clubs it’s a part of my youth that I love to this day. And while Brooklyn is going through its“Renaissance” and there are some things I do miss, having a Barclays Center and the folks at The Source360 bringing their First Annual SOURCE360 Music, Art & Culture Expo to Brooklyn along with Hip-Hop was definitely a welcoming event, looking forward to next year!
